Documentary: Megastructures - The Biggest Casino in The World
This week's documentary brings you right at the heart of the world's largest brick-and-mortar casino ever built, The Venetian in Macau.
Part of Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands empire, the Venetian Macau is also the seventh-largest building in the world and the largest single structure hotel one can find in the whole Asia.
Officially inaugurated in August 2007, the Venetian Macau features 3,000 suites, 110,000 m2 of convention space, 150,000 m2 of retail, 51,000 m2 of casino space – with 3,400 slot machines and 800 gambling tables -, and the world-famous Cotai Arena, a 15,000 seat venue for entertainment and sports events.
In the documentary, the National Geographic brings us inside this legendary casino and allows us to explore one of the most visited buildings in the world from the comfort of our own home.
"I felt that if we could get enough land, then I would be able to reproduce Las Vegas in Asia," said Adelson once talking about his most ambitious project ever.
